Highlights
Sarah returned from a mini-retirement in 2003 to qualify for her third Olympic Games with a fourth placing in the 100 metre freestyle, at the 2004 Olympic Team Selection Trials in Sydney. She had qualified for the Australian team to go to the 2003 World Championships in Barcelona, but retired before the competition to take up a career in radio because she had lost the her passion for the sport.

Previously Ryan helped lead the women's 4x100m freestyle squad to the top of the world rankings in 2002, winning gold at the Commonwealth Games and then over the powerful USA team at the Pan Pacific Championships.

After a long and distinguished career in the green and gold, Sarah is now relishing leading from the front with the likes of Libby Lenton, Jodie Henry and Alice Mills helping propel the women's team towards the forerfont of world freestyle sprinting.

At the 2002 Commonwealth Games, Sarah finished 8th in the 100m freestyle, as well as capturing gold in the 4x100m freestyle relay.

In Fukuoka for the Pan Pacs, Sarah finished 5th in the final of the 100m freestyle and split an impressive 54.34 in helping Australia defeat the USA in the 4x100m freestyle record.

In 2001 she won a World Championship gold medal in the 4x100m medley relay and made the final in the 100m freestyle.

Sarah has been a member of the Australian swimming team since 1993 and has already competed at two Olympic Games, three World Championships, three Commonwealth Games, four Pan Pacific Championships and four World Short Course Championships.
Remarkably, Sarah has made every single major international Australian team since she made her debut, which is a testament to her tremendous ability and commitment.
